Cyrus the Guard Dog

As a Chihuahua/Fox Terrier/Mini Pinscher mix, Cyrus not only has a big personality but also believes he is the biggest, most ferocious guard dog around. It doesn’t matter that he’s entering his senior years or that he has to get on top of the couch to do his job as guard dog—he’ll still warn you that the evil delivery person is approaching the house and must be stopped ASAP. And when we finally open the door for him to see what the evil delivery person left, he will lunge out, grab the package in his teeth, and shake it like it’s an evil mouse that must be killed.

Of course, if it’s the Chewy.com box, he just wants to bust it open for the treats inside.

And while he may be a small dog, his bark is big enough to scare strangers who approach our door, which isn’t the worst thing when you live on a busy street and don’t know who it is. And I guess that means that he is actually what he thinks he is: a good little guard dog.
