Kaikeyi by Vaishnavi Patel

A few weeks ago, I recommended four books with strong female characters. At the time, I had started Kaikeyi by Vaishnavi Patel but hadn’t finished it yet, and I’m happy to say that I recommend it even more now that I have finished it.

As a retelling of an Indian myth, it explores the life of a girl who becomes a queen (Kaikeyi) and uses her perspective to retell the story. It’s a relatable story about an intelligent girl who struggles to be taken seriously even though she grows up with wealth and status. It also delves into the ideas of power, how women get and retain power, how they’re perceived when they do have power, and how they can help other women become self-empowered. While following her through the ups and downs of her life, the book also looks at the fragility and fullness of life.

Well-written and entertaining, Kaikeyi is an adventure you’ll enjoy going on.

Happy reading and…

Stay Curious.

A couple disclaimers: I am not a critic. I recommend what I like and talk about it. Also, I do not currently participate in any affiliate programs or get paid to recommend something on Featured Fridays. These are simply things that I enjoy and hope others will enjoy as well. Thanks for reading!
