What Is . . . A New Year’s Resolution
So, here we are, a month into a brand new year. Have you met any of your new year’s resolutions yet? I have to admit, I’m not a huge fan of new year’s resolutions. I think they put a lot of undue pressure on the new year. And on me. Yes, it’s a new year, and it’s good to approach it with excitement and hope and maybe even a few goals. But a resolution sounds so, well, resolute. And where’s the fun in that?
As you can probably guess by now, I did not make any resolutions for 2023, and without those resolutions, I have found myself unexpectedly energized. I sat down at the beginning of the year, figured out what I wanted to accomplish this year, and have managed to put many of those things in motion already. I guess that does kind of sound like a bunch of resolutions, but really, it feels more like a map. A map I can follow, and if life throws me a curve ball, I can find a path around it.
That’s what I like about not making resolutions: the permission to have flexibility. That way, if a plan doesn’t go as planned, I don’t feel like I’ve failed. Instead, I feel like I’m allowed to find a different solution or let that idea ago.
So, instead of setting yourself up for failure this year, make a map or plot a path, or just have a general idea of where you want to be and see where it takes you. And, as always . . .
Stay Curious.
