The Dark Comedy that Is Kleo

During those final dog days of summer, it can be hard to find a new TV show to watch. Most networks and streaming services like to make a big push in the fall, so while I’ve been waiting for my faves to come back, I clicked on Netflix’s Kleo. And OMG, why is no one talking about or watching this show? It’s such a fun dark comedy, and I love a good dark comedy. In fact, if you’re a fan of Killing Eve and you miss it, this show may be your new favorite binge.

Yes, she’s an assassin. Yes, she’s got a sense of humor about her. And yes, she is out for revenge. Maybe it sounds familiar, but what I love so much about it is the setting. It takes place in the late 80s (again with the 80s, I know) in Berlin around the fall of the Berlin Wall. The production design and music are so perfect. The time and place in history is not one we see often on the big or small screen and, certainly, not in this kind of dark comedy.

The main actress who plays Kleo, Jella Haase, bears a striking resemblance to the main actress of one of my all-time favorite TV shows ever. I’m talking Elizabeth Moss in The Handmaid’s Tale. Which, by the way, premieres its fifth season this week. If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend The Handmaid’s Tale, but it is simply dark, no comedy involved, so I don’t recommend binging several episodes at once. You will have nightmares.

Kleo, on the other hand, is a whole lotta fun. Watch it!

Happy watching and…

Stay Curious.

A couple disclaimers: I am not a critic. I recommend what I like and talk about it. Also, I do not currently participate in any affiliate programs or get paid to recommend something on Featured Fridays. These are simply things that I enjoy and hope others will enjoy as well. Thanks for reading!
